Quick Spells for on the go

"to bind the spell every time,
let the spell be spake in rhyme"
                            -the Wiccan Rede

i try and stick to this rule as much as i can.
i use it as a way to differentiate between the words used in spells and prayers.
anyhow, thats just another note. put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Story to go with spell
(skip as needed, i dont mind)
one night, almost a year ago i blew out a tire on my car near my friend Phippes's house and had to have a service guy come out and change it. i drive a mini cooper, and it always seems NO ONE can figure out how anything works, including this nice man.
he was struggling to get the job done, and i hurried to Phippes to grab a flashlight.
long story short, it was really cold out and i wanted it all done.
so as i was getting the flashlight, i quickly wrote this spell in my head and chanted it over and over.
"Great Lady, i can not think in rhyme.
help the work be done in quick time!"
and by the time i had gotten back to my beloved car, the service man had found out what needed to be done, and was half finish the job.

Another quick spell. (again, skip if you wish it)
  • i was to go court ( to get justice for myself as a victim ) and my ex boyfriend Sam was my witness.
  • he was subpoenaed and would be in contempt of court if he didnt show
  • Sam is not reliable to the extreme. 60/40 he wouldnt be there
"Goddess all spells must be spake in rhyme,
Please have Sam show up in time.
For his sake, not for mine"

i again chanted over and over whilst watching for him. he got there by the skin of his teeth!

so, come up with a quick, short, rhyme when your in need. simple works just as well as complex, with your inner Magick.

if you're having trouble rhyming in your spell, use a rhyming dictionary and thesaurus.

if you dont feel that its necessary to rhyme in your spell, then dont.
use your will power.

Dip Candle Making.

Candles cost way to much. and since i try and get the purest of waxes, they cost even more. in fact i cut most of my candles (tapers, and pillars) in half horizontally, so i have more candles. so today i finally made my own wax tapers! this post will explain how to make wax dip candles in your kitchen.but also the recipe to make my "Lovegood Candles" (to bring new friends in your life)

 "Lovegood Candles"
burn to call new friends into your life
-homegrown

for basic candles you will need
[note: this will be very messy. expect everything to be covered in wax.]
  • bees'wax ( comes in solid blocks, and in little "beads" )
  • wick ( get at a craft store )
  • knife
  • cutting board
  • Saucepan
  • cooking pot
  • clean tin can (i had some soup last night for dinner, and then used the can today)
  • one stick or dowel to hold the candles
  • something to stir the wax ( i used both another stick, but also a fork)
  • stove top
  • baking soda (in case of fire)
Opt
  • wax coloring, or crayons
  • dried herbs
  • Ess Oil
to make Lovegood Candles, Add:
  • dried Lavender flowers
  • dried Valerian root
  • Ess oil of Lavender
  1. fill the saucepan with water and bring it to a simmer.
  2. start to fill the can with the bees'wax. if you got it in a solid form you'll need to chop it up. the smaller the pieces, the faster they'll melt. do not put all the wax you intend to use in all at once.
  3. try and float the tin can on top on the water. this is the goal of most of the process, getting the can to float as well as it will. its all about balancing the amount of wax against the height of the water. at some point you may need to switch to the cooking pot from the saucepan
  4. with the stick, stir the wax as it melts and add more pieces from time to time. pay fuckin' attention to the heat of both the water and the wax! do not let the water boil, and keep trying to keep the balancing act up. add more wax to the can, add more water to the pot. after all the wax is melted keep the can floating, and keep the water simmering.
  5. cut out a length of wick. long enough to wrap it a few times around the dowel/stick and dangle down to become the two tapers. [figure 1]
  6. holding the dowel, dip the two wicks into the wax and let it sit for a few seconds. pull them back out and wait for the wax to harden another few seconds. repeat 3 or 4 times
  7. after the first 4 dips or so, start dipping the candles into cold water in between wax dips.
  8. dip as many times as you want. if the tapers get lumpy, roll them on a hard surface (like you would when making a snake out of Play doe) do not let the two candles stick together.
  9. when the candles are the size you want, flatten the bottoms. hang up the candles to dry completely. if you want to save the unused wax, pour into a box or bowl lined with tin foil. when its dry you can wrap it up in the foil. peel off the foil when you want to use it again.

(badly drawn, figure 1)

Above is Basic Candles.
 to make "Lovegood Candles"
  1. mix a little bit of the lavender flowers and valerian roots. be careful, if the candles have to much plant matter, they will blaze.
  2. add to the melted wax at step 5, above
  3. drip some of the Lavender Ess oil
  4. stir it all up, focusing on "stiring" new friends into your life
  5. continue on to step 6
this is also the time you would add any other herbs, oils, or the colors you wish.

i decided to keep them lumpy. heh, they look like chodes
"hung like a tuna can" as my friend says.
perfect!

this is a photo of a different angle,
where they look completely the same.
still perfect!

to add some side notes. soon after moving into my little house, i awoke one night with my stove on fire. so after that was all taken care of, i inscribed the magick SATOR square on the wall in my kitchen. it is said to help prevent fire disaster. makes sense to me to include this idea with this post. put it up near anywhere you use fire. kitchen, alter, or just near candles.

to wash magickal tools

Magickal Dish Soap
- homegrown

it just never felt right to wash my ritual tools off with the same soap and brush that i wash my cereal bowls out with. So i made this for when washing a new magickal tool .
its not for consecrating a tool alone, but is to be used to clean off any dirt, dust, wax, or whatever, before you consecrate.  for example, when you have just bought some jars to hold herbs, and they need a little rinsing out. you can also use it for things that dont need to be consecrated at that time, but still need a cleaning. wax coverd candle holders and such.

you will need
  • a pump jar ( best to keep it glass, or at least anything not plastic. i bought a glass bathroom hand-soap pump jar. you can get them anywhere, like Target)
  • a base dish washing liquid, unscented and as natural as possible.(some soap will solidify when mixed with salt, and/or ess oils. test small amounts first)
  • Essential (Ess) oil of Rose otto/attar
  • Ess oil of Rosemary
  • Ess oil of Clary Sage*
  • Red Sandalwood powder
  • Sage powder
  • Sea Salt (unpowdered. big enough peices that they wont clog up the pump)

  1. pour the sea salt into the jar. the amount depends on how big the jar is. about 1/5 is a good bet, but do as much as feels right
  2. drip a few drops of each of the Ess oils. in this case, less is more. i did about 3 drops each.
  3. fill up the rest of the jar with the base soap
  4. add a very small pinch of both the two powders. again less is more, you dont want to stop up the pump.
  5. shake and make sure that the soap flows nicely. Shake as needed before use.

the red sandalwood powder dyes the soap red.
red is said to scare away evil spirits, so thats just an extra i guess.
no sink-ghosts for me!!
(wow, thats stupid)
lol
Another thought; i found some homemade natural kitchen scrubbers at an Amish market. find/make your own, or at least set aside a sponge or whatever used only for magickal cleaning.

of course feel free to choose your own ess oils, herbs, and such to add instead. the ess oils and powders i chose were all for their purification qualities. the only thing i will stress you need is the sea salt (well the soap helps to, but duh.) Play with the recipe until it feels right.

let me know how it goes, and/or changes you've made
